A couple of months ago, we used to have weekly playdates at Duboce Park. It was the perfect setting back then because the park was both accessible for my friend and her kids and mine. As the weeks went by, we got into a little habit of either grabbing a little something to snack on or having dinner at Duboce Park Cafe. Sweet memories, and the start of a lovely friendship.
One of our favorite things to order was their Kale crush smoothies; so good and satisfying. Every time we had it, we felt energized. Since we don't go there weekly anymore, I still kept the recipe and make it at home often because the kids, and Dominika in particular, love this drink.
Ingredients:
- A handful or two of kale (depends on taste and preference)
- 2 tbs of almond butter
- 2 bananas
- 3 cups of almond milk
- a quarter cup of yogurt
- drizzle of honey
- Optional: 1/2 cup of frozen pineapple
A little trick I have found very effective is to blend well the kale and milk first, that way the smoothie is as smooth as it can be. This helps kids that are particular about food texture and don't like to feel big chunks of kale as they drink.
We started with a handful and graduated to two handfuls of kale. This is a smoothie my family enjoys. We have added yogurt and pineapple to the original recipe to cater it to our tastebuds.
It was early morning when we had this for breakfast so excuse the morning hairs, hehe.
Do you make smoothies at home? If so, care to share the recipe?
We are always on the lookout for new smoothies our family will love.
